Piece by piece, brick by brick, God works to heal the brokenness in our lives after we come to Him. As for me, I thought once I was saved and delivered from the depths of my depravity, that all would be good. Like OK God, it’s time for me to live for you with no setbacks or challenges. Everything is easy when I come to Christ, right?

Matthew 10:22 “and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

Dang. Well, the distribution of pain, anguish, and complete anarchy to follow my redemption was pretty standard, a complete stripping away of past relationships, and anything that was holding a place in my heart that was not focused on Jesus.

Through diligent work, listening to the word, reading, and being obedient, I began to understand who I was in Christ, but also that I had ALOT of work to do in the personal sphere. There’s a misconception that because you’re saved, you should be good, but the brokenness in our pre-redeemed spirit produces wreckage and trauma that needs to be rectified not only by the love of Christ, but also (in some cases) with professional help.

Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens, so fulfill the law of Christ.”

Seeking help from professional Christian counselors and or pastors offers an offload of the things that trouble our souls and lives on a deep, and sometimes destructive level. I do not recommend secular counseling, because they cannot see the world through a biblical lens, and that is how true believers operate. You can’t send an animal to a human hospital.

Outside of specific circumstances where we need to enlist outside help, alot of us just need to slow down, listen to the word, and trust that what God says will provide us peace and understanding. Easier said than done, I know. The temporal aspect of life crushes us under its heaviness, and it feels like we cannot breathe, but faith lives in between the reality of our lives on earth and who we believe God to be.

And our faith carries our healing. Our trust in God carries our healing. Our obedience, humility, and responsibility carries our healing. This can be a hard lesson to learn when you’re just trying to recover and find your footing to take the next step, but in those quiet moments with God, when tears stream down your face because you don’t understand, but are following His will, that is when he puts you back together, because simply put, He is strongest in our weakness.

2 Corinthians 12:9-11: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

A prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the continued blessings of this day, that we can bask in Your word and understand Your will. Please continue to reveal yourself to the people who seek You, and provide them peace and understanding as you rebuild their spirits for your glory. Amen
